FAQ’s

‘Who is Martin Ramsden and what is Study-trader?’

Study-Trader is an idea created by Martin Ramsden to allow students to trade freely over the internet, instead of clogging notice boards on busy corridors of your institution, where only limited numbers of people can see your adverts. Why not appeal to a wider market?

Having studied BSc (hons) Building Surveying at Northumbria University Newcastle, I am aware of the cost and pressure to buy expensive books and equipment.

‘What are the benefits to me?’

Other sites often charge fees, one-off costs or membership charges. WE ARE FREE! Your adverts will be available to be seen online by any student. As the site will target ALL students (see Rules & Regulations) it is open to the largest studying community which gives you the reassurance that as many students as possible will see your items.

Your advert is free and you can add as many items as you like. Your items will stay online for 6 months or until you delete them. Don’t waste your time advertising or paying for the privilege, let us do it for you!

'I'm trying to upload an image, and I am getting an error message... what is wrong?'

First, make sure the image you are attempting to upload is in one of the formats Study-Trader accepts (.gif, .jpg). Next, make sure the filename is less than 500k. We do not allow images over 500k. If none of these things work, it's possible that the image is corrupted.

Luckily there is an easy solution. Go to http://www.download.com/ and download a copy of the software program IrfanView. IT'S FREE and you can use it to resize images so they're less than 500k, or resave images that may be corrupted. Once you have downloaded and installed IrfanView, simply run the program, open your .gif, or .jpg image, and resave it as another version (example: in IrfanView, open file named pic01.jpg, and resave it as pic01b.jpg). Then, simply return to Study-Trader and upload your newly resaved image.
